One Photo: Mae and Otto
Mary Mae “Mae” Lydick and Otto Norenberg stood outside the Telephone Office downtown Cass Lake on April 10, 1932. Look at the reflection in the window; you’ll see the Telephone Office sign. Inside this building is where Mae worked as a telephone operator. They look like they are ready for a date.
Mae and Otto married 18 months later. Because there are very few photos of them as a young couple, I am especially grateful that Mae labeled with one with the date.
I made a photographic copy in the 1990s at Mae and Otto’s house. When I say photographic copy, I mean I took a picture of the picture with a hard-body Nikon 35mm camera using black & white film, camera lights and a tripod. A few years ago, I invested in a flatbed scanner with equipment to scan black and white negatives. This was one of the first negatives that I scanned. It looks pretty good!
