Nörenberg – Ziemer Marriage

Michael Nörenberg (c. 1840-1895) and Louise Schröder (c. 1845-1909) were the parents of Konstantin Nörenberg. Michael/Michał was first married to Louise/Ludwika Ziemer.

Perhaps Michael’s marriage to Louise Ziemer will lead to a greater understanding of his early life.

Michael’s First Marriage

The first place to look for a marriage record is in the town where Michael was born. However, no birth record has been discovered (to date). As discussed in a previous post, the majority of the birth and none of the marriage records from the Brzeziny parish exist.

Therefore, one must look for evidence of the marriage of Michael Nörenberg and Louise/Ludwika Ziemer in  other documents.

Julianna Nörenberg – Birth

This baptism/birth record of a Nörenberg child survives in a Lublin parish book:1Evangelical Church Lublin. Poland, Lublin, Lublin, Lublin, church records, 1835-1973. “Births, marriages, deaths (Akta urodzeń, małżeństw, zgonów) 1864.”  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-899H-Z97R-4?i=51&wc=QZW1-QXJ%3A1588932888%2C1588932897%2C1588932896%2C1589087947&cc=2564996, image 052. accessed April 14, 2024. Julianna Nörenberg, register #193. Translated by Monika Kucel of the Facebook Genealogical Translations Group. April 24, 2024.

Is this the same Michael that married Louise Schröder in 1883?

This Michael would have been born about 1842. Previously, I proposed Michael’s birthyear as 1840. Because no birth record for Michael exists, we must gather a lot of evidence before we claim a specific birthdate for him. This could be the same man.

This child was born in the Niezabitów commune, Lublin. Michael’s death record listed his birthplace as Parish of Brzeziny, Łódź. These 2 places are about 100 miles apart. But Michael Nörenberg lived and died even farther east, in Volhynia. So it is possible that this child was born somewhere in between. These 2 Michaels could be the same men.

“The father’s wife, Ludwika née Zimer …” means that this couple was married before July 8, 1864.

Who are Marcin/Martin Zimmer and Jan Nörenberg? Are they brothers of the child’s parents? These relationships must be investigated.

The entire page of this record book is a mess with circles and re-numbering of entries; there are no headings at the top of the page. However, this information is gleaned:

In the Lutheran Church, young persons confirm their baptism. After studying Luther’s Catechism and the Bible, confirmands publicly profess their faith.

For us seeking more information about Michael Nörenberg, this document verifies his move from Lublin to Volhynia.
