Who is serving up these family stories?
I’m Karrie and have lived in Minnesota most of my life (except for those formative years in a Quonset hut). Since 1986, I have been collecting family stories like some people collect recipes. Check out the side bar to see which surnames I’m researching.
What is hotdish?
Hotdish is a traditional, one-dish, main course meal. If you are from Minnesota, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Hotdish has everything: ground meat, vegetables and a cream soup base all mixed together and served hot (maybe cheese on top, if you are lucky). Minnesota author and humorist, Howard Mohr, went so far as to call hotdish a “native food.” Don’t ever call it casserole.
What does hotdish have to do with family history?
The miracle of the American melting pot is like the “hot” part with lots of variety. My family history stories are posted here all together, as if they were thrown into a rectangular, oven-proof Pyrex dish.
Welcome to my table where I’m serving up lots of family history hotdish featuring sorrow and surprises, legends and leaders, integrity and infamy, personalities and puzzles.
Don’t be a stranger!
Contact me and we will compare family history notes/recipes. -Karrie
You can pick the green beans out of your hotdish, but you can’t pick your ancestors.
